Brief Course Description This course is designed to be an introduction to the concepts of information systems. Topics covered include: history of computers, operating systems, desktop publishing, and an introduction to personal computer applications software such as word processing, electronic spreadsheets, and graphics design programs. You will also gain experience with some of the various disciplines that comprise multimedia and desktop publishing, and will have a chance to learn intelligent use of the internet.

Expectations You are expected to follow the rules as outlined in the Gulliver Student Handbook, as well as adhere to Gulliver's Acceptable Use Policy for Computers. You are responsible for your computer station during the class period. Since Applications I is primarily self-paced, reading and concentration are essential in order to follow the guidelines contained in the classroom textbook that accompanies the class. An assignment that is not completed satisfactorily will receive an "I", and students will have an opportunity to re-do that assignment. At the end of the semester, students receiving an "A" for every assignment will receive an "A" for the course. Otherwise, a grade of "Incomplete" will be given until every assignment given an "I" is re-done to the satisfaction of the instructor.
